PROEM - A Permanent Solution 2007 (N5md)
Proem returns to N5md after several years on Merck, and delivers an
oddly "old-school" IDM album, where the modern-days trickery are
relegated far in the background, leaving space for lush melodies and
well chosen analog sounds. More delicate than ever, and obviously
focusing on the emotional aspect of his music rather than on the plugin
race, Proem offers here his most beautiful and gentle album to date, and
confirms that while there electronic producers are a dime a dozen, he
belongs to the group of those who actually have an idea where they are
going with their music.
RUN RETURN - Sum Of An Abstract 2007 (N5md)
Following closely their "Metro North" debut, Run Return offer here a CD
presenting old tracks, recorded between 1999 and 2001, in which their
taste for Boards of Canada-like sonorities and ambiences (already
discernable on the "Animals are beautiful people" 7") get the lion's
share again. Adequately mixing gentle, syncopated electronic beats with
a strong use of accoustic instruments (and in this strangely alike to
the much later recorded "In Distance" album by N5md's manager Bitcrush),
"Sum of an abstract" is a perfect sunny electronica album, discreet, modest and very pleasant.
DAMIAK - Micalavera 2007 (N5md)
Charming debut fuill length album for Daniak, who hadn't had anything
since the "Pesero" 7", also released by N5md back in 2004. Fitting very
well with the rest of this label's now impressive discography,
"Micalavera" combines soft, delicate rhythms with the accoustic elements
which seem to be constantly taking more and more prominance with each
N5md release. Gentle to the extreme, delicate and very laid back, this
dreamy CD is the coming of age for yet another strong act on this label.
